[ A slight tip of his head, daring Jim to disagree. ]

Right, I get that but you are not going to be able to take care of all of them.

( he sighs and rubs a hand over his face before he looks back at spock. )

You go in alone, they'll kill you. Because their numbers will be greater and they're not going to want to be embarrassed again.

[logicalities]

[ A moment of silence. He cannot refute the point. He also cannot leave the nest as it is. Jim's concern is surprising, but appears genuine.

There is only one logical course of action. ]

Very well. [ He's seen reason. Hasn't he? Surely... ] As you are preoccupied with my safety, you may again accompany me.

[farraguts]

Oh, will I?

( jim's actually a little surprised but in a good way. he kind of likes that spock's decided he's good enough to go with him and, if he's honest, jim doesn't like knowing that a nest of vampires like that exists.

he grins. )

You could actually phrase that as a question.

[logicalities]

For what purpose? You will either accompany me due to your as-yet unexplained feeling of concern and responsibility for a stranger you have only just met, or you will not.

[ A hard stare, one eyebrow lifting slightly. ]

However, I will not dissuade you should you choose to join me.

[farraguts]

Maybe I just like being asked.

( but he chuckles because this man is so literal and blunt that it's refreshing. )

You have anyone else that could help? I'm not saying no but I wonder if you've ever had anyone else at your back.

[logicalities]

[ Spock blinks, startled by the laughter. But after a surprised moment, he answers. ]

When I was a child, my father accompanied me until I proved myself capable.

[ Which is not what Jim asked. It's the most Spock has to offer, though. ]

How long did it take him to judge you capable?

( he's surprised by the information but he takes it nonetheless, turning it over in his head. )

You seem like you'd pick things up pretty quickly.

[logicalities]

I was ten.

[ Matter of fact, as though this is a perfectly normal age to be set loose to hunt on his own. Father of the year award, there, for Sarek. ]

My father was at times overly cautious. Though I had proven my ability in the traditional manner by embarking upon the kahs-wan when I was seven, he did not allow me to hunt on my own until he personally was satisfied as to my competency.

[farraguts]

Jesus.

( he'd been young. jim rubs the back of his neck before he sighs. )

Has it always been vampires? Or have you hunted other things?

[logicalities]

[ An unexpected reaction, though Spock opts to make no comment on it. Surely the news that he has been a competent hunter since ten years of age ought to be reassuring rather than eliciting something near chagrin. ]

Other things, when necessary. Fortunately, there are relatively few other creatures that see fit to feed upon sentient beings.

[farraguts]

( vampires did have that little quirk about them, didn't they? he makes a face. )

Not all vampires are like what we saw in that building.

[logicalities]

[ He tips his head, adds, dryly: ]

You may have noticed that I did not attempt to kill every vampire I encountered on sight.

[farraguts]

I did notice that.

( and he appreciates that. he's not sure he would have helped if spock had just come in with his sword swinging. )

I would have been a little pissed off if you'd just come in and started lopping off heads. I don't think we'd be having this conversation.

[logicalities]

Indeed, we would not.

[ He could leave it there. He could. But instead, he adds, mouth quirking with just the faintest trace of humor: ]

As you would be lacking a head.

[farraguts]

Oh, you're full of yourself.

( jim grins widely, amused. he tips his head, crosses his arms. )

You think you're that good that you could catch and kill me?

[logicalities]

[ Dryly: ]

At the moment, I am full of your blood. I believe that makes me full of you.

[ But he gives Jim a considering look, lingering and evaluating. After a few seconds pass, he declares: ]

And yes. I would be able to track you, capture you, and, if necessary, kill you.

[farraguts]

Ha, good one.

( he can appreciate something that makes him laugh even if he follows up by saying that he'd kill jim if there was a reason to.

jim clicks his tongue against his teeth and raises an eyebrow. )

I'm not that easy to kill.

[logicalities]

I did not say I would have an easy time of it.

[ Placidly, as though they're not discussing the offing of one of the people in the room. ]

[farraguts]

I'm just amused that you so brazenly think you'd beat me.

( he's pretty confident and jim does like that, at least. )

You haven't even seen me fight. Not the best of my abilities. I barely showed you what I can do back there.

[logicalities]

While that may be true— [ He studies Jim again. ] —you have also not seen the best of my abilities.

[ And he is certain he could indeed take the other vampire in a fight. ]

[farraguts]

Guess I haven't.

( he could admit that. he glances over spock's body with some curiosity and fascination before he smirks. )

Probably won't be seeing that for a little bit. You took a beating and my blood can help but it's still gonna take some time.

[logicalities]

[ The sense of sharp evaluation abruptly vanishes, darkening into something almost mournful. ]

You are unfortunately correct. No doubt our foes will be glutting themselves in preparation.

[farraguts]

Probably.

( but at least they had some idea what they were going to be facing. )

Probably need more weapons.

[logicalities]

That would be helpful. Are you aware of a location where we may acquire additional armaments?

[ They're lucky they still have Spock's sword — anything else he brought, he suspects is now lost along with what he had stored in his original lodgings. ]
