( there's really no way to stop the fact that sometimes he has to walk into a portal and disappear for awhile. it's not that different from what she does, taking off in her government given jets or buses or whatever it's called and flying off to try and save the world. it's how things work, it's how their lives are and it can't be helped.

this time, he's back before she is. he tries to call her but she doesn't answer which means she's probably in the process of separating someone's head from their body. their own fault for pissing her off, he's sure.

robbie sends her a quick message that she'll see whenever she turns her phone back on (unless it ends up crushed to bits) and let's gabe go out with friends. gabe looks at him knowingly, robbie throws a sandwich at him, and ends up having to clean it up when gabe's gone.

he doesn't even know if daisy has a home that isn't shield headquarters and robbie sure as shit isn't going to go there and wait for her. there's something uncomfortable about knowing cameras are constantly on you. makes relaxing hard. makes a lot of things hard.

(not like that, unfortunately).

she knows where his house is and if she wants to see him, she'll come over. if not, then he'll eat cold pizza and go to sleep. )

[truth is, some missions are easier and some are harder to swallow and harder to mentally distance herself from. it comes with not having swallowed every line in the shield manual, she's pretty sure, that at the end of the day daisy retains enough humanity that she needs a shower and a hug.

the other truth is that she's taught herself better than to need either from people, because people - boyfriends in general - tended to disappoint her. and yet, in this she remains an idiot, because she can't stop being hopeful when it comes to people, too.

the bottom line is, she knows that she has a few people that she can trust and count on. the bottom line is, only one of them makes her short of breath and giddy like a fucking dumbass.

predictably when she turns her phone on (once the quinjet lands and she's had a shower and she's taken care of reports, and and and) and finds his message there, a knot in her throat that she hadn't even noticed before releases. he's good, he's back and safe.

the reply is short: hell yes she want to see him, and it'll take her a bit but she'll drop by.

she has to pull some strings to get dropped off (literally, she jumps off a plane, albeit with a parachute, to get to his place) she does make an entrance.

namely, knocks, and shouts:] LUCY!

( wow. he's glad that he doesn't have neighbors because he'd sure they'd be peering out their windows at the woman at his door, making noise like some teenager. she's lucky that robbie likes it and wouldn't give a shit if his neighbors did get an eyeful.

honestly, daisy would probably give them a show if she knew she were being watched because she does like making his life hard.

he makes her wait only a few seconds before he pulls open the door. if she's hollering like that, he thinks she's fine but that doesn't stop him from looking her over to make sure. )

You gonna stand out there all night and make noise or what?

( hopefully it's the or what. that's what he'd prefer. )

[she grins at first sight, and adds the final quote,] I'm hooome. [in a smaller voice, before taking a step forward.

by the time he's done asking the 'or what', she's pushed him back into the house, and has found the perfect spot to grab onto his shirt to pull him down for a kiss.

it has been a while. too long of a while.]

( well hey, she gets points for at least waiting until she was inside his house before kissing him. he'll give her that. he manages to kick the door closed while he kisses her, stepping back to pull her inside a little further.

his eyes are still closed when she pulls away from him to ask a question. he blinks away the fuzz and then runs his tongue along his lips. )

Guess it's an or what kind of night.

( good. that's what he was hoping for. )

[nice - and also, she follows that motion intently, glancing up at him when he speaks. distracted by robbie's mouth? not her - no, she's fully professional here.]

[foolishly, the last bit of that line comes out soft and tentative, because what if it's too much brutal honesty and emotional vulnerability?]

( but as he says the words, he reaches to bring her closer to him, pressing a kiss against her forehead because hey, he's a sap too. and he missed her too. )

( she's not bleeding or limping or holding her guts inside her body like he's seen her do so he's taking that as a good sign. )

[she lets out a soft little sound at the forehead kiss, planning to accuse him of being an ultimate sap, but he asks that, and what comes out is a choked laugh.]

Ha - no. Not at all. Was gruesome, don't wanna think about it. [she pulls back to look at him, quiet for a moment.]

You wanna take my mind off how shity the world can be?

Sure. I heard there's a good documentary on television about grain silos.

( that's not what's going to happen. if she were being a smartass and he was in a mood, he'd definitely make something like it happen but he's not feeling it right now. )

[she raises one eyebrow, because it's always amusing (and hot, has she mentioned?) when robbie comes to play like this, and for a second she really wants to take him on a game of chicken and say sure, let's watch the documentary.

except it's almost never certain when they'll see each other next time, where the ghost rider will take him, where shield will take her. she's had near death experiences, and she's sure as hell so has he, and one of these days one of them won't come back.

so no, not going to watch a documentary.]

[she really hates it when her jokes don't land. with a fond, yet frustrates sigh, she follows him enough to catch up, and then hooks her fingers through the belt loops of his pants.]

Robbie. [this will be defined as A Look.] Do you really want me to say I'm hungry for you? Is that the level of cheese we've lowered ourselves to?

( hey, her joke landed, he just chose to call her bluff because he knows it frustrates her. and he likes to frustrate her. after all, look where it's gotten him.

she's got her fingers through his belt loops and she's saying ridiculous things. )

( just to see if she will. )

[her expressions transition from raised eyebrows of really, you wanna do it this way?, to huff of laughter of alright, fine, let's do it this way, to pure trouble.

she steps closer, and pulls him closer too, by those belt loops, and brushes her nose just under his skin, lips a whisper away from his.]

Yeah documentary sounds great, chico. [and then she kisses him, because you know. it's been a while and she's here for those grain silos.]

( grain silos are pretty exciting, he knows. not that he's even sure if there's a documentary about those floating around because his television isn't even on.

and then she kisses him and he forgets all about grain silos because this is better. he barely knows what a goddamn grain silo looks like.

with a quiet sound of pleasure, robbie steps closer and winds one arm around her, stepping close until he's nearly pressed against her. )

[in her defense, she doesn't care about the documentary, nor is she sure if it exists, but she cares about this. the kissing, the being pulled closer, the being held parts of it all. cares about it so much that she breaks through that cool facade and just murmurs in between kisses,] Don't tease - okay?

( he just...has to remind her of that. she's a sarcastic person and he thinks he takes it pretty well. but he laughs against her lips, shaking his head. )

( caught him on a good day, daisy. )

I know, I know, cursed with a smart mouth. [she catches that laugh, nipping at his lower lip before starting to walk them towards his room.]

It's been a long time, and if I can be sentimental here, I missed you. A little. [ugh, feelings. she just - it's his stupid handsome face, makes her want to admit to feelings all the goddamn time. can't she just go back to kicking his ass in a junkyard? simpler days.]

[in all honesty? no, it was shit. she's got half a mind to tell him, just lean into him and take the whole thing off her chest. but he's got his issues and his gruesome missions, and she's got hers, and if it were a normal relationship with two normal people who just work in corporate, maybe they could have these kind of conversations too.

instead, she just kisses his cheek, in soft and quiet gratitude for asking, and follows him to the bedroom.]

I'm good - I'll be good soon, anyway. I'm kind of grounded for the next week or so, apparently - overused the powers.

[like she said, it takes her a while to get to the tower where avengers reside, and even though she's coming over with a purpose, she still makes nice with the people who happen to be in the way between her and the "purpose".

bless him, but it's hard to cut captain america off with hey, nice to see you again and all, but i have a date with pietro's face and am really horny so let's catch up later. so she ends up spending fifteen whole minutes talking about recent SHIELD missions and how the inhuman project is going, and what kind of international incidents were resolved by daisy's team lately, as well as actually setting up a day for an official catch-up meeting, before daisy has the courage to make a dumb excuse and leave.

thankfully, the a.i. that start installed in the tower doesn't hate her anymore, so she takes the lift up to the private quarters with relative ease, and thankfully nobody else there to see her come in for a booty call.

finally, she reaches pietro's door, and knocks.]

Open up, it's the pizza delivery boy, I got your extra sausage. [she pulls a face at her own terrible joke.]

Hey if Cap asks, I came here to spar with you, yeah?
