[ Spock has in fact heard this colloquialism. His brows furrow. The man before him is objectively an attractive human, but he does not care to argue this fact. Far more importantly, the point of his statement is being missed. ]

Enough humans would agree with my opinion that you would have little difficulty engaging with them.

[ A bit blankly, surprised in the face of Jim's laughter. Considering their current situation, outnumbered and in hiding, such good humor is entirely unexpected. ]

I have been trained as a hunter since I was a child. I do not hunt vampires simply because of a personal dislike.

[ He's not unwilling to share the information, of course. It's just that he wasn't asked before.

They prey upon humans to severe detrimental effect. Rather than coexistence, the vampires I hunt are more akin to parasites. [ A beat, then he adds pointedly: ] You saw the means by which this nest has chosen to feed.

Yeah, I saw. They'd say they were only doing what they had to do to survive.

( not that he agrees, just presenting a different point of view. )

Even if some of them are a little nasty about it.

[ Demonstrably so; he need only look at Jim, who is in good health without turning humans into chattel. ]

I am curious, if you believe that to be a "little" nasty, what method would you consider to be "very" nasty?

[ Why wouldn't he immediately go back to the place where he nearly got killed? ]

[ He's not feeling well enough to provide the exact percentage of likelihood, but it is almost a certainty. Nevertheless, he holds Jim's gaze, resolute. ]

( he sighs and rubs a hand over his face before he looks back at spock. )

You go in alone, they'll kill you. Because their numbers will be greater and they're not going to want to be embarrassed again.

[ A moment of silence. He cannot refute the point. He also cannot leave the nest as it is. Jim's concern is surprising, but appears genuine.

There is only one logical course of action. ]

Very well. [ He's seen reason. Hasn't he? Surely... ] As you are preoccupied with my safety, you may again accompany me.

( jim's actually a little surprised but in a good way. he kind of likes that spock's decided he's good enough to go with him and, if he's honest, jim doesn't like knowing that a nest of vampires like that exists.

You could actually phrase that as a question.

For what purpose? You will either accompany me due to your as-yet unexplained feeling of concern and responsibility for a stranger you have only just met, or you will not.

[ A hard stare, one eyebrow lifting slightly. ]

However, I will not dissuade you should you choose to join me.

( but he chuckles because this man is so literal and blunt that it's refreshing. )

[ Spock blinks, startled by the laughter. But after a surprised moment, he answers. ]

[ Which is not what Jim asked. It's the most Spock has to offer, though. ]

How long did it take him to judge you capable?

( he's surprised by the information but he takes it nonetheless, turning it over in his head. )
