( he is not dealing with death right now. he could heal the man with his blood but he has his doubts that spock would really welcome that. so, he doesn't.

he does take the sword and grips it with one hand, keeping the vampires at bay while he asks? )

Can you walk at all or do I need to carry you?

[ Even were Spock so inclined as to accept a relative stranger's blood, they are unlikely to have the opportunity for him to drink it until they are far from this enemy stronghold. Spock spits again, leaving green blood dripping down his chin, but this time he manages to clear his mouth and throat enough to gasp out thick, wet words. ]

I will manage.

[ A moment where it seems as though that is not the case, and then, grimacing, Spock straightens and steadies on his feet. ]

Yeah, you sure look it.

( he grabs at spock's shirt, securing his hand in it and then starts moving, trying to drag him along and out of here. the vampires aren't going to just let them leave but hopefully they can get a break and slip free. )

Come on, we gotta keep going. We need to get some distance between them and us. Let's go.

[ The momentum from how the man drags him is unfortunately necessary, but Spock does not complain, only allows himself to be pulled into motion. Already, the enemy vampires are regrouping. He snaps out a hand and breaks the arm of one who lunges for them; the vampire wails and leaps back, but Spock is sent stumbling directly into "Roger's" shoulder.

He grimaces; blood quickly mats down "Roger's" shirt. But still, he grits out: ]

Keep moving.

Yeah, yeah, that's the plan.

( and he keeps moving, keeping a hold of spock even as the man continues to fight and bleed. )

I think we're almost to the entrance.

( from there, hopefully they'd be able to duck off somewhere and get out of sight and smell of these vampires. )

[ Spock staggers along in "Roger's" wake, trusting blindly that they are heading in the correct direction. It is not a trust he wants to give, but there is no choice. His vision swims and his other senses are overwhelmed. Even their own racing footsteps pound in his head.

The door they entered through comes into view and Spock spills out of it, tumbling to his knees. He forces himself back to his feet with a grunt and looks around, wildly, head spinning. He gasps out: ]

I do not— I am unaware of any safe house in the vicinity.

Well, we're just going to have to make a safehouse, then.

( find a building that they could get into and stay there until it was safe to go out. )

We're not going to get far with you like this. We need to get out of sight and stay there.

[ All Spock can manage is a nod, too busy slamming the door behind them and wedging it shut with a nearby bit of detritus. It will hold only for a short while — hopefully long enough to let them put distance between themselves and the nest. When that's completed, loud thuds echoing through the still-pouring rain as the vampires inside try to break through, he turns back to "Roger" and grits out: ]

I am unfamiliar with the area. By neccesity, I am open to suggestions.

Just focus on not bleeding out.

( he'll do the rest. he's not so much dragging spock but it's a close thing. there's a few buildings in the distance but they're obvious so he doesn't think he'll go right there.

there's an overpass nearby but that's too open. )

You gonna get all pissy if I commit a minor crime to get us out of here?

[ He still has the energy to glare at "Roger" for that singularly unhelpful piece of advice. Were they not both already covered in blood and dirt and other substances Spock does not wish to think of, he would, albeit distantly, take some pleasure in the fact that he is at least spilling his blood on "Roger's" clothing. As it is, he only manages to stagger near apace with "Roger."

The question takes a moment to register, and Spock finds himself leaning heavily on "Roger's" shoulder as he drags his hazy mind towards an answer. But finally, he grits out: ]

At the moment, I am hardly in a position to take issue with your methods.

[ It's not a no. It's closer to one than it would have been earlier, though. ]

Good. Then, no lectures later.

( because he's going to find the first car he can and steal it. he'll return it later or something. the first car he finds is a busted up, beaten down station wagon but it's easy enough to smash out the window.

the car has no alarm so he unlocks it and shoves spock into the back before he ducks in the front to start hot wiring it. )

Stay out of sight.

[ Spock is too dizzy with blood loss to offer the proper response, which is that he has made no promises and will absolutely be lecturing "Roger" later, if only for his inefficient methods in purloining vehicles. Pure chance means that the car does not possess an alarm to draw their pursuers directly to them. "Roger" is nevertheless leaving more than enough evidence for their route to be surmised and tracked.

Perhaps fortunately, Spock does not have energy to sit up and begin explaining these errors. He goes sprawling across the seat and stays supine where he lands, one hand pressed futilely to his wound. ]

They will be searching for you as well.

[ And unlike him, "Roger" cannot both stay out of sight and operate the vehicle. ]

Yeah, I know. That's why we've gotta hope this hunk of junk works.

( jim works his way down on the floor of the front seat and rips out the dash so he can start twisting wires together. )

If you hear something, let me know. I'll get us out of here.

[ Spock is quiet for approximately twenty seconds, listening both to "Roger's" attempts with the dash and for any signs of their pursuers. But then— then, listening to "Roger" working on the wires, he cannot help but comment: ]

You seem unusually practiced with liberating vehicles from their owners.

Relic of my childhood.

( he sounds amused as he folds and fits wires together. eventually, he thinks he's got it and he sits up when the engine roars. )

Hopefully this old tank puts some distance between us and them.

[ Spock inhales. In his weakened state, his control is poor enough that he furrows his brows at the intake of a distinct petrol smell. Fortunately, "Roger" does not see. ]

If it does not combust with us inside, the clear damage to the engine will at the least make tracking more difficult.

Yeah.

( he floors it and takes off, shooting down the street and away from that place. )

Were you planning on getting yourself killed today?

[ Whether it is the car's lack of shock absorbers or just a factor of "Roger's" driving does not matter; Spock is jolted across the seats. He has to make a frantic grab for a handhold. The sudden movement pulls; he cannot muffle a short grunt of pain.

A few heavy breaths later, Spock regains himself. He does not lower his hand from its position braced against the back of "Roger's" seat. ]

Negative. That would be highly inefficient.

Kind of a rhetorical question but glad to see you didn't have a death wish.

( jim looks in the rearview mirror, trying to track anyone. he can't see them but that doesn't mean anything so he takes a few sharp turns just to try and throw anyone off the trail. )

Do I need to take you to the hospital?

[ The sharp turns are not helpful to Spock's current status. However, they are necessary, and so he does nothing but brace himself again and force words from his raw throat. ]

Do you believe they would hesitate to attack us at a hospital?

[ He does not. He is certain these vampires would take great delight in the opportunity to kill both Spock and "Roger" as well as human collateral. ]

Fine, we'll go to my place.

( it's protected enough and he thinks it'll take time for the group of vampires to find them. )

No digs about the decor, please.

[ The comment is so unexpected that for a moment, Spock can only blink. He pushes himself up a little to give "Roger" a dubious look. ]

In our current situation, you are concerned with my judgment of the aesthetic appeal of your home?

It's a joke.

( obviously he doesn't care that much but hey, he's trying to lighten the mood. jim rolls his eyes. )

Trying to get your mind off the fact that you're bleeding all over the place and currently sound like shit.

[ The dubious look only increases in intensity, Spocks brows furrowing no longer only from pain. Perhaps "Roger" is not entirely sane. That would explain many of his actions to this point. ]

As I am currently bleeding out, it is difficult to focus my mind away from that fact.

Look, I can pull over and heal you.

( vampire healing, that is. jim's not sure if he'd be a fan. )

Or you can wait and not die in this shitty car.
